Subject Optic Neuropathy; Paraneoplastic Syndromes
Description Paraneoplastic optic neuropathy (PON) is one of the rarest forms of paraneoplastic syndrome. There are no clear diagnostic criteria; it may present with bilateral vision loss, optic disc edema, vitritis, and neurological dysfunction. The vast majority of PON is associated with small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and presents after the cancer diagnosis. We describe a case of PON with no prior known malignancy and negative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cytology.
