Briefly describe the principal building, additions or alterations and their dates, and associated outbuildings and structures. Use continuation sheets as necessary. The Wild House is one of approximately 150 Victorian Eclectic style, Crosswing type houses that were constructed in American Fork during the late 19th and early 20th Centuries and survive today. Most of these buildings were constructed as modest farmhouses for the "middle-class" of American Fork: small scale farmers and livestock raisers, and small business owners. The house retains many of its original features, including original window openings and frames, and simple, classically-inspired cornices at the roof line. The house appears to have undergone ongoing renovations that have somewhat altered the details of the house, but nevertheless have resulted in no substantial decrease in the building'S historic integrity. The house's original porch was probably similar in size and shape to the resent porch, but probably included turned posts with a modest amount of decorative scrollwork at the top of each post. At some point (probably c.1925) the original porch posts were replaced with a single square wood column placed at the corner ofthe porch. Other substantial changes include new stucco on the exterior walls ofthe building, and the application of a concrete veneer over the original sandstone foundation . A wood frame lean-to addition was built at the rear of the house sometime after 1938. Sanborn Maps show that at one time several wood frame agricultural outbuildings stood at the back (east side) of the property. Currently only one other building besides the main house is on the lot, a small wood frame shed at the southeast corner ofthe property. Architect/Builder: unknown Date of Construction: c.1892 Historic Themes: Mark themes related to this property with "S" or "c" (S = significant, C = contributing). Explain andjustify any significant themes marked above. Use continuation sheets as necessary. This house appears to have been built c.l892 for Margaret Ann Lee Wild. It sits on land patented by James Welsh in 1870, when American Fork's land was officially assigned and official records ofland owners began. Welsh sold the land in 1890 to Eunice Powell and Cordelia M. Cushing. J.J. Cushing, Cordelia's husband, was one of American Fork's early developers. In 1890, Cushing, along with business partner Harry Timmons applied for a franchise from the American Fork City Council to develop a streetcar line and string electrical lines through the downtown area. The application was denied, but another of Cushing's 1890 business ventures, the Cushing's Subdivision, was more successful. It is composed of the north half of the block bounded by Main, 100 South, 100 West, and 200 West. The area, one of the first subdivisions in American Fork, was successful. Many of the subdivision's substantial homes remain. In 1891 Margaret Ann Lee Wild purchased lots 15 and 16 in Cushing's Subdivision, and presumably built this house soon after. Margaret was the plural wife of Edwin James Wild, who owned other property on 100 South between Center and 100 East. Little information was located about either Margaret or Edwin; the 1929 Polk Directory notes an M.A. Wilde as city sexton. Further research beyond the scope ofthis survey might uncover more information about the couple. Margaret owned the house for almost 50 years, until her death (c.1940). Margaret willed the property to her daughter, Lillie. The house has stayed in the Wilde family for over 100 years; its current owner, Stanford J. Wild, is Margaret's grandson. MARGARET A. For future reference, the historical narrative should discuss all available (and pertinent) information concerning the owners/occupants of the buildings. Obituaries are needed for each and every person who owned and/or lived in the building (for some period of time) during the historic period. Photographs should not be mounted (not archival). /william & Haydee Thornton House_ 88 S 100 West ~ / Thomas & Emily Chipman House , 219 S 100 West o'2-rk~1 /Bernard & Maud Christensen House 0 '-.-1. 0 DD 154 S 100 West William Chipman-Abner Chipman House DGl~t{ 279 S 100 West (.;.Af~~~~'C""-( /Hans & Maren 210 S 100 West Dr. James & Elva Chadwick House 01..-"100 ~ 40 S.
