The Leendart and Geertrui Kleiman House, built c. 1917, is a vernacular Prairie School bungalow with the characteristic low pitched hipped roof, wide overhanging eaves, brick masonry walls and horizontality emphasized in the concrete coping and window sills. The east facing partial-width front porch is covered by a hipped roof extension of the main roof. Square brick pillars support the porch roof. A three-brick-wide basketweave pattern appears directly above the rock-faced concrete block foundation . The windows are primarily tall narrow casements with wooden sash. The back frame sleeping porch was altered in the 1990s and a solid wall clad in wooden vertical siding replaced the wall of windows. Aluminum sliders have replaced windows to the rear on the sides of the house. There is a small single story hip roofed bungalow built c. 1909 to the rear of the lot with the address of2047 Jefferson Avenue. Leendart Kleiman and his wife, Geertrui, purchased the initial piece of property in 1916 from Johan van der Akker and his wife, Janie. The next year he built the bungalow at 2945 . Leendart was born in Ouderkerk, S. Holland in 1854 to Cornel is and Jacornijntje De Jong Kleiman. In 1877 he married Geertrui Anna De Vroome Kleiman, born in 1855 in Brandewyk, South Holland, daughter of Dirk and Louise Catherina Delvaus De Vroomen. They had fourteen children together from 1877 to 1900. The family carne to the United States in 1910 and Leendart worked as a machinist for the Southern Pacific Railroad in Ogden . In 1910 the Southern Pacific was Ogden's largest employer with 1000 people from Ogden on its payroll.2 By 1913 there were 70 passenger trains per day passing through Ogden. Geertrui died in Ogden in 1936. Their daughter, Anna Louise, and her husband, William Gerrit deMik Jr., assumed title to the property in 1931 and held it until 1983 . They rented both houses and lived elsewhere. William was also Dutch and born in 1889 in Utrecht, Holland to William Gerrit and Catherine Wilhelmina Koppenberg deMik. He came to the United States and married Anna Louise Kleiman in 1913 in Farmington, Utah. Anna Louise was born in 1891 in Arnheim, the Netherlands. During his career he was the office manager for the Fred M. Nye Company for thirtyfive years and after his retirement was credit manager for the Kammeyer Sports Store, the Tribe Furniture Company, and also worked for the Ogden Standard-Examiner. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LOS) and at the time of his death, in Ogden in 1961, was a member of the Weber LOS Stake presidency. Anna Louise died in Orem in 1976. The current owners of the property, Orval Hal and Sharon Brook Olsen, purchased it in 1983 and live in the house at 2945 Jefferson Avenue.
