UCard/mobile printing - Ron Wells Quite a few in the room using the pay-for-print (Pharos Uniprint) model that UCard introduced. There will soon be a way to allow laptops to identify buildings with approved printers, download an "install package" that will allow users to print there. Upgrading the database and release stations will be necessary, but it appears upgrading the client machines will not be necessary. Via a web interface, users will be able to see a 3-D type of image where they can choose the building location they want to print and download an install package to allow printing in the desired location. Compatible with Vista, Mac OS 8, 9 and 10. Ron hasn't heard of support for any handheld devices yet. Testing will be done after the upgrades of the database and release stations are done. A new install package will have to be created if a printer is moved and the 3-D images will have to be revised. The UCard office will do that. They want to use the existing campus map for these locations, if possible. The db and print servers both reside in the Park Bldg. To update UCard with any changes, contact Ron Wells. Print job queuing defaults can be set by local admins; the system default is 24 hours. A department in the Annex is using it for both students and staff. Pharos has the capability to charge something other than the UCard. Satellite campus locations can use this solution, too.
