Gartner estimates that 80% of content is unstructured, hard to get to. Goal is to get to that unstructured content. Craig's List is the 7th largest website in the world; but only 19 people run it because of community contributions. Want to model our University websites like that, where the people with the content can easily publish. Want access to faculty data (need it for the Faculty portal, anyway). HSC already has Find a Researcher and Find a Doctor . . . We own the PeopleSoft faculty/self-serve module. The next project would be coming up with a plan to integrate this functionality and make it available to colleges. Pretty aggressive time frame. A possible Go live for pioneer departments in October - December 2006 timeframe, but we still need to make this a real project (get funding, get a plan, get it done). Question: can departments have their own applications to tap into data sources. Paula says that is difficult to give an answer without knowing the specifics. Our plan is to support virtual repositories; people will be in charge of their own content. Content mgt application will work on any kind of content and includes workflow, but access to some data will be quite controlled. Using the content delivery application piece would be a college decision for departments to go this way. Goal is for an enterprise-wide solution.
