Title |
Hoffman Building located at 4828-4830 South State Street built in the 1900s |
Subject |
Murray business |
Description |
This two story structure housed another location of the Up-2-Date Bakery and Souvall brothers ice cream parlor (4828) and Ed Hoffman's Market (4830) was the south occupant with two apartments upstairs. Arthur Holmes was the butcher and each businessman knew his customers and called them by name. Charge accounts and free grocery deliveries were taken for granted. Following WW II, Paul S. Rose and O. Wayne Nielsen opened a men's furnishings store which was later taken over by Earl Townsend, known as Mr. Debbs. Sometime in the late 20s early 30s, Gamble Stores occupied the northern store (4828). |
