The Martello House is a one-story brick bungalow with an Arts and Crafts influence. It has large low-sloped gabled roof and a centrally placed dormer. It has a lot of exposed brackets and rafters, and has some exposed framing members infilled with stucco on the east and west sides of the home. It has a wide front porch, a brick chimney, and is in excellent condition. It is one of the better examples of Arts and Crafts in the district. It was in part constructed using lumber from the Eccles Lumber Company and electrical from Smith, Butters, and Vogel. 5 mSTORY Architect!Builder: NIA Date ofConstruction: 1914 Historic Themes: Mark themes related to this property with "S" or "C" (S = significant, C = contributing). In 1914 August Martello purchased the property from realtor Ora Weable, and promptly thereafter had the home constructed. August and Katie Martello owned the home until 1925, when it was sold to Roy and Zina Peck. Mr. Peck was worked at his family's business Peck Bro's and Graham, a stockyards outfit. Mr. Peck passed away shortly after purchasing the home. Mrs. Zina Peck was born in Farmington in 1871, a daughter of Elias and Lucy Van Vleet. Mr. and Mrs. Peck moved to Ogden in 1922, shortly after buying this home. They were both active in the LDS Church. Mrs. Peck continued to own the home, although she did not reside there. She moved to Fielding, Box Elder County, in 1931. She rented the home out to two primary people over those years. Alma C. Hyde, a manager at Scowcrofts, and wife Miriam lived in the home throughout much of the 1930s. Wesley Crouch, a bookkeeper and office manager resided there in the early-1940s. In 1947 the home was sold to Otto and Zelph Waldron. Mr. Waldron was born in Oregon in 1901, a son of Robert and Rose Waldron. He owned and operated the Mecca, located on 25 th Street, in Ogden for several years. They owned the home until the mid-1950s, when Ronald and Maurine McFarland purchased the property. -- . du. \ . ) - - .- - - - - . , I ------.- J. ... .a .\ l \ , I 1 • - ~ .: I \ ... ~ J • {. •."
