In life, we have to learn that we are living in a world we have created! We make choices on a daily basis that have consequences. It is up to each of us to research whatever information we have been given, in order for us to be in a position to make an informed decision. Once the decision has been made, we cannot wallow in disdain when the result does not work in our favor. We have to be able to live with the result of the choices we have made. I remember hearing Oprah Winfrey say, “If there is ever doubt in the pit of your stomach about a choice you have to make, then don‟t do it! Because in the end, you have to live with that decision you have made.” Take for instance, upon releasing the magazine in Atlanta, my main concern was about the promotion of the event. Considering Atlanta a “Hot Spot” and taking into account that people in Atlanta have a GREAT variety of choices to choose from; my desire was to get a great promotional team! I went to a couple of networking parties and did a little research and chose a group called, A.H. Entertainment; headed by Andre Hill here in Atlanta. After hearing his pitch and he hooked with me up with the hottest DJ in Atlanta, „Atlanta‟s Own-Jimmy Jones‟, A.H. Entertainment was the one I was rolling with! Andre sent me a price list and I paid and we were on from there! Well, low and behold…after the money was in hand, the most I had gotten out of the deal was the DJ! When I saw that the results were not coming in as was promised, I asked for my money back….Andre became a no show…so to this day…he did not promote my project as promised and paid to do! There goes a substantial amount of money down the drain! I was on FIYAH…it still boils me to a point…but, I had to step back and look at the choices I made in making the decision about hiring him! Yeah, it was wrong for him to take my money and not do what I paid him to do, but did I make the most informed assessment about him and his company? The results that came from this choice are the consequences of the decision I made…and in the end…I have to live with the decision, get over it and next time be better at making an informed choice! In this issue of IMPACT Magazine, we are speaking to R&B recording artist, Teedra Moses! We speak to Teedra and discuss choices and the opportunities she has been given. IMPACT highlights pictures from our Atlanta Premier; which were all captured by Sherryl „Solo” Burns Boyd.! We had such a blast of a time! In addition, we have our Book of the Month and our Be Inspired section which we cast a light on our sponsors from the Atlanta Premier; Ivy Leaf Travel and Fear4ly Made Body Oils! We all live and learn from the choices we have made! It is what we learn and how we get over without the tumult on our hearts. Without the disdain, we are free to live, learn and move forward because we have made peace with our choices! I am learning this as we speak…but…the first step into this freedom is stepping back to look at the role we all have played in the consequences from the choices we have made! Be a blessing to someone today! Tunisha Brown Editor-In Chief T he task of any great artist is to create days of future past, to make memories that will be looked back upon one day with fond nostalgia. Heartfelt songs that invoke love, play, heartache and reconciliation tend to stand that particular test of time when it comes to R&B music. Singer/songwriter Teedra Moses‟ debut album Complex Simplicity passes that test with flying colors. Complex Simplicity harks back to the sassy, playful 1980s tunes of Cherrelle while blending in Teedra‟s own new millennium brand of soul. Teedra was born in New Orleans, spending much of her young life there before moving to Los Angeles with her mother following her parents‟ separation. As a youth, she was inspired by her own mother, a successful gospel singer on the church revival circuit in the South, and attributes her pursuit of a singing career to the artistic culture in L.A. Influences from both cities went into Complex Simplicity, a labor of love and the realization of a lifelong dream for Teedra. “Some things you feel you have to stick with, [but] it doesn‟t give you any fulfillment,” says Teedra. “With singing, creating music gives me a fulfillment that I knew I wouldn‟t find in anything else. So I just decided to stop short in styling and start pursuing music.” Best known for his production on Black Eyed Peas debut single “Joints & Jam,” producer Pauli Pol was referred to Teedra by a mutual friend as she prepared to put behind her days as an assistant stylist to the stars in pursuit of her singing dream. “[Pauli] did the entire album with me because I wanted it to be something really personal and a union, like a marriage, not all over the place,” says Teedra. Artsy perhaps, but never pretentious or affected; that‟s just not Teedra‟s style. Having transcended humble beginnings writing brand-new lyrics to favorite songs (“I started out writing over [Prince] music that I liked, but then I started to just write songs and make the music in my head”) and emceeing at family home comings, Teedra has found her voice and is more than prepared to share it with the world.
