It had Green Revival Pillar Poles on the front, with a small porch balcony, with a gable roo : A barn and granary was built to the West of the home, probably about 1880. The Dental OfficI was built around 1935, East of the House, by Dr. R. C. Robinson, after he moved ,there. After Dr. R. C. Robinson purchased the home from the family in 1942, he did some additional building, updating the barn, extending the kitchen and garage and decorating the interior. His wife remained there for a year or so, when Dr. R. C. Robinson moved into the home about 1920, soon after his graduation from Dental College. After Doc and his wife Delilia moved into the home, he began to improve it. Everything was in a run down condition, and he rebuilt the back part of the house, added the bay window upstairs to the north, removing an old screen porch and adding the patio. The summer kitchen was turned into a wash room and a bathroom was added in the house. He also rebuilt the front balcany. The Dental Office WdS built, which serviced the local people. He constructed beautiful gardens to the north, building an amphitheater, roller coaster, ferris wheel, tea house, play house, and other play ground equipment for his children. He took great pride in his horses and barn, and it was always a show place. Many parties were held in the gardens and they were always beautifully groomed and many flowers. Due to declining years and poor health, Doc was unable to keep the place as he once did. Afte hi? death, the family sold th~ property · to Lagoon Investment Corp, in 1986. Lagoon has remode the home. Dare & Sharon Vandever live in the home, and Dare has done all the remodeling. it is very beautifully done. The illterior was completely redone, adding a new kitchen, new bathrooms, family room, laundry and storage rooms. The exterior of the house was not changed except for the garage torn off and a large family room added. Patios surround the west and north of the house, and the gardens have ·been completely redone and, terracing and lawns laid and the pond redone. The Vandever'S have done a beautiful job on the home, andhave tried to retain as much of the old atmosphere as possible. They intend to redo the Old Dental Office in time, and are constantly refinishing and rebuilding. They continue to entertain and show the home and the gardens. Dare VAndever is an employee of Lagoon Corp, doing carpentary and construction work for them. He is truly an artist in his work. It stood about 2j rods west of Jesse Wells Smith's residence ·near Charles A. Miller's and east of Cottonwood Creek, which would be on the corner of 3rd north and main. 1854-1855 was the year of the grasshoppers. It was a hard year for the people, as they depended entirely on the crops for food and grain. Winter of 1855 was very hard and this was followed by the grasshopper famine in 1856. They kept a herd of sheep for clothes and food. 2. The winter of 1916 was an extremely long and cold one, began in earnest early. Because of the long hard winter and dry season of 1916 hay was scarce, costing $40 and $50 per ton and could not be foun~ in sufficient amounts. A number of stockmen killed lots of rangehorses and cattle to save them from starvation. I heard people say that they would tell to their children in the years to come, of the long cold and hard winter of 1916, instead of that of 1855 of pioneer days. Many hardships were felt by the early residents of Farmington. was scarce and costly. Everything The ground was very fertile and during good weather and plenty of water, times were much easier and food and clothing was plentiful. Joseph Elijah Robinson died August 25, 1918, buried August 28, 1918 in the Farmington City Cemetery, Davis County, Utah. He had lived an active life, regardless of his injury in a runaway buggy, he was a devoted family man to his wife and children and to the people of the area. whatever capacity he was needed. He served whenever called, in His wife Dorothy Henderson Watson lived in the family home for several years after his death. His son, Robert Clarence Robinson moved there with her in 1920 after Dental College, and she sold him the home. She moved to the little Robinson Home on 72 No. Main and lived there until her death 8 April 1943. Recapped from the Journal of JOSEPH ELIJAH ROBINSON. Zelda E.
