Show WHY MOSES MISSED THE PROMISED LAND "THEY ANGERED HIM ALSO AT THE WATERS OF STRIFE, SO THAT IT WENT ILL WITH MOSES FOR THEIR SAKES: BECAUSE THEY PROVOKED HIS SPIRIT, SO THAT HE SPAKE UNADVISEDLY WITH HIS LIPS." (Psalm 106: 32-33) burning bush on the backside of the mountain, God spoke to Moses and called him into leadership. He was to lead the children of Israel out of Egyptian bondage and take them to the promised Out of a land. After one excuse- after nine trials with then another and plagues, he successful got the children of Israel out 1 of Egypt and across the Red Sea. There they murmured and complained about the food, about the water, about possible burial places so much so that God let them wander around in that wilderness for 40 years just on the other side of the mountain. They kept wandering until all Egypt died except Caleb ad Joshua until a whole generation was gone. The people had a "things are the men who left better back-home mind set" and it took change an attitude. You can waste a lot of precious time and miss a lot of opportunities with a bad mind set. It is a good idea to check you attitude. Then, one day God took Moses up to forty years to the mountain of N ebo, to the top of Pisgah and showed him the promised land. The Bible says, "And the Lord said 2 him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying I will give it unto thy seed: unto I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither. So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land ofMoab according to of the Lord. And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day. And Moses the word 120 years old when he died; his eye was not dim, nor his natural force God abated." (Deuteronomy 34: 4-7) was an kept Moses strong and still Moses missed the promised land. Could that be what the prophet Zechariah had in mind when he quoted God as saying, "Not by might, not by power, but by my spirit, saith the 3 (Zechariah 4: 6) You might be physically fit, morally strong and still miss the blessings promised by Lord of hosts. " God. promised land? What did he do that kept him from realizing the hope of the promised land? Why did Moses die without experiencing what God had for His people? Moses missed the promised land Why did Moses miss the because he lost his cool. Here is the answer in Psalm 106: 32-33, "They of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips." The New Testament summons us angered him also at the waters to "Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath. 4 " (Ephesians 4: 26) Moses got so angry that he disobeyed God's order to speak to the rock for water and he struck the rock. angry that instead of delivering the ten commandments to the children of He got so Israel, he broke them. Moses lost his temper because of the strife among the people. He lost his cool and got hot under the collar. His anger got the best of him and he missed the promised land. only that but Moses missed the promised land because of what he said. The test says, "They provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips." Anger wi11 cause you to say things that you ought not to say. Anger makes for mean words and harsh speech. Anger leads to action without reason. Anger Not causes you to talk when you have 5 nothing to say and what you say is painful. Be careful what you say when anger because what you say is like water poured on dry ground. Y ou you are can never get it back. That modem day prophet Otis Redding used to sing, "Now that you left me, how I cry, "You don't miss your water till your well runs dry." angry with the people that he said things he ought not to have said Moses got so promised land. They said all kinds of things to and about Jesus. They called Him a wine bibber. They mocked Him. The put a crown of thorns on His head. The spit on Him. They speared Him in the side. They hung Him on an old rugged cross. They give Him sour wine and vinegar to drink. But He never said a murmuring and missed the 6 word. He gave Himself for you and for me and because He lives, we shall live. 7 |
