Show WHEN JESUS CALLS YOU BY NAME "So when Me more they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, (John 21: 15) than these? Jesus made " a name son ofJonah, do you love good men or prophets. For He talked more about the subject of for Himself different than that of other spoke to the common may with the use of parables. He also love than anybody else. Peter had denied Jesus when they arrested Him three times. As he stood warming himself by what some called the devils fire, Peter said, "I am not one of his disciples," "I don't speak with the same accent as Jesus spoke," and he cursed 'saying "You are mistaken, not me." Jesus had warned Peter that the devil wanted him, but Jesus said, "I have prayed for you and when you are converted, strengthen the brethren." Now that Jesus has risen from the grave, He shows Himself to the disciples and eats with them as proof of His resurrection. When they finished eating breakfast one morning, Jesus turns to Peter and calls him by his name. Names always mean something. Solomon said, "A good name is rather to be had than great riches; and loving favor than silver and gold." (Proverbs 22: 1) God changed Abram's name to Abraham, Sarai's name to Sarah, Jacob's name to Israel, Simon to Peter, Saul to Paul, and the book of Revelation says that those whose name will be found written in the Lambs book of life will have a new name. I tell you that there is something special going on when Jesus not only calls you but takes the time to call you by your name. He called Nicodemus by his name so that he could convert him. He called Zachaeus by his name so He could go home with him. He by his name so that He could raise him from the grave. When Jesus calls you by your name, you ought to listen for there is something special going on. Why did Jesus call Peter by his name. He called Peter by name because Peter was always thinking of things in the natural way. He thought of building on the mount of Transfiguration. He thought of how much it would cost to feed 5000. He thought about the sword to cut off a man ear and force the Master to establish n earthly kingdom. He thought about warming himself instead of standing firm with the Master. He called Peter by his name because Peter had been half-stepping and wavering", He had been disobedient and denied the Lord. He was not what he ought to have been. Heclaimed the Master on the Mount of Transfiguration but denied Him around the fire. Jesus called Peter by his name because He 1}lnted a total commitment He wanted form Peter unswerving commitment and unwavering love. He wanted Peter to love Him supremely. In order to be an effective shepherd, Peter would have to love Jesus, love God more than anything and anybody else. He wanted Peter to constantly and consistently feed, nourish the called Lazarus flock of God. God wanted to ask what might be the most amazing questions of all times, "Do you love stuff out of which God builds a relationship. The greatest ,very commandment is to "Love God and the second is to "Love your neighbor" and the great me?" Isn't that the ... commandment is to "Love your neighbor as yourself." "At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess." "There is a name I love to hear. I love to sing it's worth. It sounds like music to my ear. The sweetest name on earth." (Hymn 226 "Oh, How I Love Jesus") |
