Point 1--------Ch ristians have infl uence. Point2--------Christian influence demands purity. Point 3-------There is no substitute for Spiritual influence. Point 4-------0ur influence is useless when mixed with the world. THE SALT OF THE EARTH Matthew 5: 13 According to The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, slaves were given an allowance of food consisting of one bushel of meal and either 8 pounds of pork or fish. That was in the days of no refrigeration. They had to find ways to preserve that meat for as long as possible. Some chose to smoke it, some kept it in running water, and some packed it in salt. Jesus had spent the night in prayer. When He finished, He choose 12 disciples. Then He set about teaching and training them for Kingdom business. Some of them had been fisherman and no doubt all of them knew about fishing and fish. Since they had no refrigeration, they had to use other ways of preserving their fish. One of those way was to pack it is salt. For salt was used as a preservative. Salt is required to help us balance the water in meat. Salt was used in Old Testament days our bodies according to Job 6:6. Salt preserves day of birth high temperature produce spread across captured fields and to wash and rub newborn babies on the to Ezekiel 16:4. Salt was mixed with manure and burned to fuel for according according to Luke 14: 34-35. Salt was used as a weapon of war, making them less or non-productive. One of the medical challenges we face today has some relationship to salt. When you have excessive thirst, your mouth is dry, your body is fatigue or sleepy, you have to urinate frequently, your sight get blurry, you lose weight or get hungry without obvious explanation; it maybe that your blood sugar is out of control or you have diabetes. Too little insulin to produced by the pancreas to move the glucose from the blood stream into the muscle for fuel can be a serious problem. You might need to change your diet, exercise more, take medication, take care of your feet, control your weight or stop eating so much salt. More than 20 million Americans experience this problem. Our test is a reminder that many of us are spiritually not where we ought to be. We are morally rotten with alcoholism, drug addiction, and pornography. We are theologically rotten with mythological beliefs and false doctrine. We are spiritually anemic with lack of faith and filled with fear. Jesus called upon in us to live and act like we are the Salt of the Earth. First, that way we have Christian influence. We can make a difference in the lives of our people, the political circles, throughout the community, in our homes. We are and ought to be different. We stand out in this land Second, character. We as pilgrims travelling through. influence is pure and positive. With the Spirit of Christ, pure without mixture. We live on one side of the street. our are Third, the is no substitute for Christian influence. Like salt has Accent, lemon juice, and the like may help but they are not the same. Whatever we are value. no we have substitute, the world needs becomes useless when missed with dirt. Impurities make When the young man went off to because he was a Christian. He said, "No, impeccable our witness of us. no secular university, someone asked if people laughed at him nobody knew I was a Christian." I am afraid, like the often unrecognized symptoms of diabetes, nobody know that we are Christian because we are salt that has lost it savor and are good for nothing. Although we have sweet smelling breath, we are confused, have double vision, are weak and dizzy, are nauseated, keep running out. The prostitute gave birth to a son while she was drunk. She named him "Born Drunk." The baby grew up and saw how a friend lived. He began to say how he wanted to be like that friend. One day the friend asked, "how about being like Jesus?" "Born Drunk replied, "Jim I know but Jesus I know nothing a about. Whatever Jim is, is what I want to be." You and I are the only salt on the earth and we must never loose our savor. |
