They assured me that good company would likely result in behavior but that bad company would lead to bad choices and bad good Sunday, the preacher preached about "Fellowship With God" and suggested that there would be great value and benefit in being in fellowship with The Almighty. This morning, this sermon is a word caution and warning to us to be careful about our spiritual fellowship for some fellowship is just wrong. Many of us have aligned results. Last 1 ourselves and become allies with this world where now God paid on we are our strangers and have fare like Jonah fleeing from the downward road to destruction. God cautions us time and abstain from evil, to shun the very appearance of evil, to flee from time again to wrong. Yet, we are being influenced, sometimes driven or led in the wrong way, the wrong direction because keeping the WRONG KIND OF we are FELLOWSHIP. First, we are in the wrong fellowship with unholy practices. James 4: 4 says, "Y e adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the enmity will be friendship of the world is with God? Whosoever therefore a friend of the world is the enemy 2 of God." We have to choose who we will affiliate and be friends with. I see it sometimes with parents who seem to rather be friends with their children of generation that to be parents of their own generation. Christians would another rather be friends with this world and be ashamed to be Christians in this world controlled and governed by satan. John 3: 19 reminds us, "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and than light, men loved darkness rather because their deeds were practices corrupt morals. With unholy practices, we are in the wrong kind of fellowship. Second, unholy pleasures are the wrong kind of fellowship. Paul told the evil." Evil 3 saints at Colosse to "Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth: inordinate fornication, uncleanness, affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: for which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication our of your mouth." (3: 5-7) There are some things that we enjoy but they are deadly. Some things that bring us temporary pleasure yet only for a time. When Satan offered unholy pleasure to Jesus, He responded, ""Get thee hence, Satan, for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord 4 thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." (Matthew 3: 1 0) Not only is unholy practices and unholy pleasures wrong the wrong kind of fellowship but so are unholy prophets. Now to use the words "unholy" and prophets" together seems a contradiction in terms. Maybe that is what makes for the wrong kind of fellowship. Listen at Paul talking to the Corinthians, "And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the loving God: as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them: and I will be their God and they shall be my 5 people. Wherefore come out form among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean things you." (2 Corinthians 15-17) They are prophets but their prophecy is not true. Don't keep fellowship with them. and I will receive Then, no 6: matter how hard it is to imagine, God tells us to be careful of fellowship with unholy people. "But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, idolater, or a railer, or extortioner; with such a drunkard, an one, no or an or an not to (I Corinthians 5: 11 ) Notice he speaks of "any man that is called a brother" doing evil things. God id not eat." 6 make any people to be shunned but some people behave such that shunning them pleases God. He is not saying you will not bump into them, in fact, the text suggest you will bump into them. But hanging out with them and doing what they do or condoning what they do is what makes fellowship with some people wrong. Finally, I tell you God calls us out from unholy places. Where God is not is a place you ought to separate yourself from. Ask yourself, "Would God be comfortable here?" "Is this a place where God gets glorified?" "Is the name of Jesus being called here?" "Are we standing on holy ground?" Moses saw the bush burning and heard a voice call 7 by his name and tell him, "Pull off your shoes, for ground on which you stand is holy ground." (Exodus 3: 5) They led Jesus up Golgotha's hill and He sanctified the ground by dying for you and me. They buried Him in the tomb him and he sanctified the grave. He got up declaring that "All power in heaven and in earth was in His hands." "Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean and I will receive Corinthians 6: 1 7) 8 you." (2 |
