Show NO OTHER GOD " ... That they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God." (Daniel 3: 28b) The preacher ins Ecclesiastes 12: 1 reminds us that since everything under the sun is vanity, we should "Remember now thy creator in the days of thy youth, which the evil days come not, not the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them. " When God was getting the children of Israel ready to enter the promised land, He gave Moses the Ten Commandments. One of those commandments was: ''Thou shalt have no other gods be/ore me.'' (Exodus 20: 3) Yet, the children of 1 Israel in their delayed entrance to the land made golden calves, served the god of the sun, worshiped before one altar then another. They forgot what God told them to do and went about doing their own things. The people of God were taken captive by the Babylonians. The Babylonians tried to make these people of God eat the meat of the king and into those who served man-made gods. Even Nebuchadnezzar made a golden image and told the people that they should all worship that image or suffer the deadly consequences of a burning fiery furnace. But when the burning fiery furnace did not work and the three that were thrown in bound came out walking, Nebuchadnezzar came back with a 2 different story. When he saw the victory of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, the told the people "that they might not serve or worship any god, except their own God." What a statement of assurance and conviction. The burning fiery furnace not only did not bum the Hebrew boys but it did not so much as singe their hair, burn their clothes, or make them to smell like fire. On top of that, the king saw a fourth man walking loose in the fire and that man looked like the Son of God." That was enough to convince the King to stop playing around. My sisters and my brother, let me tell you it's time to stop playing around with God, stop pretending to be saved, stop just looking like a follower, stop just being in the 3 crowd, stop playing church. God is to be taken serious. Acknowledge God for who He really is. Realize that He lives and moves, and has our being. That He is the light of the world. That he is the way, the truth, and the life. That He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega. That He is the savior of every believer and the hope of the future. The bright in the morning star, the lilly of the valley, the Rose of Sharon, the horse pawing in the valley, the one who treads the wine press alone, water in dry places, bread in a starving land. He is our everything and if He is our everything, then surely we ought to praise and worship Him for both who He is and what He is doing. 4 |
