Briefly describe the principal building, additions or alterations and their dates, and associated outbuildings and structures. Use continuation sheets as necessary. SHED . This is a single-cell prefabricated shed. The shed is a single story structure resting on a concrete foundation. Twelve rectangular ventilation openings are present in the foundation. Each is 6 by 8" and enters the foundation at an oblique angle, with four vents each on the east and west sides of the foundation and two each on the north and south sides. Ventilation for the attic space is provided by two rectangular covered openings, one under each of the gabled ends. The roof of the shed is covered with sheet metal and is moderately pitched with gable ends on both sides. Entry to the structure is from the north side through a metal door with batten lining consisting of vertical lumber over which plywood has been nailed. The walls are constructed of metal sheeting that has been U-bolted together and appears to be in good condition. Corrosion on the sides and roof suggests tin plating over the metal sheets, and there are several layers of gray paint. No interior wall covering is present. The ceiling covering consists of wooden shiplap siding. The floor is covered with plywood sheeting. ASSOCIATED STRUCTURES AND OUTBUILDINGS Associated structures include four additional storage sheds and a blast wall. These associated structures are described individually on separate Historic Site Forms. s. HISTORY Architect/Builder: Unknown Date of Construction: 1950s? The structure was apparently used to store explosives by the Giant and/or Atlas Powder Companies, which owned the property in the early-mid twentieth century. A 1908 photograph (Shipler Negative Collection no. 8184, on file USHS library), shows at least eight buildings in the vicinity, with a rail spur running out to them. General Land Office maps made in 1855 and 1872 show no improvements on the property. This structure does not appear on the 1951 version of the Salt Lake City North 7.5 minute USGS quadrangle, but it does appear on the 1963 version. Detailed maps of the area from earlier in the twentieth century could not be located. Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps do not cover the area in question. Land ownership and tax assessor records for the area are available at the Davis County Recorder's Office in the land granted by "UP" to Farmington. These records are incomplete, however. County records record a mortgage ''UPRR'', both grantor and grantee presumably representing incarnations of the Union Pacific Railroad (Davis County Abstracts Book A: Folio 263, line I). No other records are available for the property until 1935, when the Salt Lake Municipal Corporation granted a lease to E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Company Company, the parent company for Atlas Powder, which had aquired adjacent property in 1934 (Davis County Abstracts Book 1 & 5 North: Folio 70, line 28). for trRANSACTION GRANTOR (SELLER) DATES TYPE OF DOLLAR GRANTEE (BUYER) TRANSACTION AMOUNT :;1./;2.11/1117 U, LJ/!/J,A.
