Optic Neuritis is an inflammatory, demyelinating condition affecting the optic nerve that causes acute, usually monocular, vision loss. Optic Neuritis has been reported as a manifestations of the 2019 SARS-CoV-2 virus in the literature1. However, association between mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and optic neuritis exists2. The mechanism underlying the above association is not well understood; some studies postulate molecular mimicry between myelin basic protein and viral proteins, superantigen activation, and epitope spreading as possible underlying mechanism. |
