Title Rural Decline
Creator Jay David Hill
Description Research and investigate the plight of rural America and its small farmers and ranchers. Create an awareness through the use of design principles and methodology to solve the problem by finding innovative solutions within the parameters of the problem and research. Our country has lost more than four million family farms and ranches since the mid-nineteen thirties. Along with that loss is the accompanying loss of local economy and the subsequent failure of local businesses. The need to make people aware of the plight of the small farmer and rancher in America is critical. This body of work is compelling and innovative, not only speaking to the problem, but also supporting the idea that the solution to the problem can be found in the problem itself. This work creates a relationship between design and rural America. This is not a solution to the problems of rural America but a way to make people aware of a social issue char will ultimately affect everyone in this country. This is not a political statement rather it is a painful realization of the effects of time, world markers, technology, and policy. This is not a comprehensive research project, rather it is a vehicle to create relevant design steeped in process and methodology.
