In J: Major's lot contains a section across the creek to the east which was the old adobe yard. The ground is recessed clearly marking the pit where clay wa~ ,extracted for adobes. The old mixer still stands. It is a square box with a pole fitted to the inside with paddles on it. These paddles, powered by a horse hltched to the pole, would mix the clay and sand together. When the clay was the right consistency it was placed in molds and then carried out into the yard and tipped onto the groun~ and allowed to dry.
