The frame-lined adobe addition was added in 1914. The house is a one-story high house with a gable directly over the front porch, both later attachments to the older 1880 structure. There are several small hipped roof houses in town which are close in appearance to this house. Though the hip-roof suggests later 19th Century fashion, the floor plan adheres to the older folk derived "hall and parlor" style. The a ciobes in the original part o'f the house came from Vincent Majors dobie yard located in the same block just to the west. The lot contains a hay barn, a log granery, a log hog _B01,JSe, a -log chicken coop and several frame outbuildings. The kitchen retains some of the original stenciled decorative motifs on the top of the walls, although it has been remodeled. 5 Arehiteet/Builder: > Daniel Beckstrom Date of Construetion: l880s 25 write ~ a) :E a ehronolosieal history of the property, foeusins primarily on the orisinal or prineipal owners & sisnifieant events. This house is worthy of attention because it demonstrates that by the late l880s builders here were accepting modern house designs, even on more modest homes. Interesting also is the idea of using the newer elements, in this case the hipped roof, on the exterior but keeping the old plan on the interior. This house was new, but not too new! Peter Justesen 1877 !-layor's Deed. buys it in 1879 for $250. 1871 to Louis JOstesen $100. Daniel Beckstrom Beckstrom family owned the house through 1976 when it was purchased by Joseph Bennion.
