Pleasant) This typical log cabin, with a lean-to built on the rear was listed on the county historic register at the March 11 county historic preservation meeting. Believed to have been built by Samuel Willis Allred, the structure is located southeast of Spring City, about 700 East and 200 South. It is currently owned by the Burns Allred family. Turn-or-century Ephraim cabin named to register EPHRAIM-- A log cabin, typical of those used at the tum of the century, was listed to the Sanpete County Historic Register at the March II county preservation commission meeting. The cabin, located about 700 East and 200 South, southeast of Spring City, is known as the Samuel Willis Allred cabin and is still owned by the Bums Allred family . Among the historical data presented with tbe nomination by Tessie Pyper, chairman of the Spring City Historic Preservation Commission, was tbe bomestead certificate issued to Lutellus Burdick, Junior, May 12, 1899, by President William McKinley, and the original warranty deeds transferring the property first to E.A. Billington, June 28, 1899, for $95, and to S.W. Allred, Marcb 20, 1900 for $413 . Samuel Willis Allred, the son of Samuel Allred and Elizabeth Diantha Allred, was born and raised in Spring City. He was a carpenter and built many bouses in Spring City. The family believes he built the family cabin around 1900, when he purchased the land from Ezekial Billington. He also sheared sheep. Willis, as he was known, lost two wives, Charlotte Fredericka Peterson Mickel and Susannah Roundy,. ,. from complications during childbirth . The two babies, Charlotte Fay and Susannah, also died . He and bis third wife, Aneoia Floy Christiansen, raised four children, all of whom were born in the cabin, which was the family home. Their first cbild was a daugbter, Anenia Floy . As the family grew, Willis and Anenia "Need", erected a large tent on the south side of tbe cabin and tbis is where the tbree boys, Willis Boyd, Ruel Bums, and Louis Samuel, slept. The home had only one bedroom on the east side. Family birthdays and holidays were always held at the little home. Need was a meticulous housekeeper and an excellent cook. She also planted flowers around the cabin and had a large garden. They had an orchard, and the farmland around '~home grew good crops. " ,,::\ . r· .... :.. Willis and Need lived in the tiny home until 1938 when they moved into a home on 100 South Main. Willis died in 1950 and Need in 1963. Both are buried in the Spring City Cemetery. The county sites register was establisbed at the commission's Oct. 8 meeting. Buildings and sites which are historically signi ficant, but are not yet listed on the national Historic Register either individually or as part of an historic district are eligible for listing. Historical significance may be determined by age, association with an important person or event, or distinctive architecture. For .a listing, a one-page nomination form containing the description of the site, owners' name and address and the historical significance is required. A photograpb of the building or site is also needed. There is no charge for the nomination and commission members will assist property owners in filling out the nomination form . Certificates will be awarded to owners of properties listed on the register. Those interested in having their property listed on the county Historic Sites Register may contact any of the local commission members: commission secretary, Corrine Clark, of Centerfield; Nadine Nibley of Ephraim; Penny Hamilton, Mt.
