His father Knvo, a "hornspoon" maker. The family converted to Mormonism in IB54- and _ emigrated to Utah in 1863. Spring City was their first horne. They were "called" to settle Monroe, Utah but returned to Spring City when Indian hostilities forced the abandop~ent of that community. Marens was raised a farmer and later learned the carpenterts craft. Nortensen was undertaker for Spring City for many years and made all the coffins in a workshop on the second floor of this house. "TaS 1870 patent deed to Knud Mortensen. ho1ds property through 1890. kr.ud probably had an earlier adobe house on the lot before his son erected this house. Marenus Mortensen gets lot by decree in 1903, and the new house could have been built soon after this date.
