The roof has a very steep pitch. The design, popular in Spring City, is a comfortable partnership of the old and the new . . A hipped dormer stands forth on the facade. This pattern book plan is one of many such popular house designs which found their liay into Spring City in the late nineteenth century. The pattern combines ' elements of older folk house internal space with more progressive extenal trappings. The l8l.0 patent went to Sidney H. Allred, sold to George Downaid in 1878 for one-htmdred <Iollars; 1882 to AYel Tulgreen one-htmdred dollars; Jom ·Frank Allred 1884 for eighty dollars; 1884 to Ellen Tulgreen for one-htmdred dollars. The Tul:greens held the lot for about a thirty year period and probably were the builders of the house. Ellen sells the portion of the lot lmere the house is to ~l Teu1green in 1893 for two-htmdred dollars. Transferred back to Ellen 1'u1green in 1900 for one-htmdred dollars.
