This rectangulp plan granary has a gable door and a gable roof which projects forward out over the door, in this case about three feet. The gable door is off center and the building is one-and-a-half stories high. In later years the granary was converted to a human dwelling but remains unaltered and in excellent shape. Statement of Historical Significance: C .Ag :lcc!!t ure 'ii"'Arc;-:, ,ectu re o The Arts o Commerce o o o o o Communication Conservation Education Exploration/Settlement Industry o o o o o Military Mining Minority Groups Political Recreation o o o o Religion Science Socio-Humanitarian Transportation The projecting roof form (from glassie) is a type' ,""carried across Europe as a part of the Neolithic complex and continued to be employed commonly into the Iron Age on much of the continent ••• it was used as a dwelling, a stable, or a granary ••• The same form is found today in central Europe and Scandanavia, built usually of horizontal log or stone," This granary was part of a larger farm-house complex which included an adobe house and stone barn. The house and barn have been removed. The 1870 deed went to Thomas Bywater who sold in 1875 to Peter Houlter. N:oulter undoubtedly built the house, barn, and granary soon after this date. In 1888 Moulter sells the lot to Christine Kofford. The Kofford name is usually applied to the granary but in all likelihood, Moulter was the builder.
