UHS Regional Speech Contest

The photographs were taken for the 1950 edition of the Uintah High School yearbook. They are on page 65. The photograph at the top of the page is of the cast of the Contest Play. It is captioned: "Balcony Scene." It was by Donald Elser. It was directed by Ursel Allred. The Student Director was Doris Karren. The cast members were: Dale Fullmer, Edward Davis, Rita Curtis, Gwen Wooley, Connie McGraw, Garrett Case, Del Mar Bastian, and Joan DeJournette. The photograph in the second row down on the left is captioned: "Readings." It is of the students who placed in the Humorous Readings and Dramatic Readings sections of the Regional Speech Contest. Mary Ann King (Second Place) and Jayne Siddoway (Third Place) were in Humorous Readings. The students in Dramatic Readings were Rita Curtis (First Place), Dale Fullmer (Second Place), Mary Alice Calder (Third Place), and Connie McGraw (Fourth Place). The photograph in the second row down, second from the left, is of Nannette Markuson and Lloy Bennet who won First and Second Places in the Retold Stories section of the Regional Speech Contest. The photograph in the second row down, second from the right, is of Mary Alice Johnson (Fifth Place) and Alberta Slaugh (Sixth Place) who participated in the Orations section of the Regional Speech Contest. The photograph in the second row down on the right is of Claire Murdock who won Third Place in the Extemporaneous Speaking section of the Regional Speech Contest.
