It has a low red filed hip roof with wide overhanging eaves. First floor front windows are casement type. This house contributes architecturally to the Avenue district. The original owner was John A. Houghton, a manufacturer's traveling representative who did not occupy the house. Jesse Jay Thompson bought the house in 1923. Thompson was born September 1, 1885, in Tower City, Pennsylvania. He moved to Salt Lake in 1922 after acquiring considerable experience in retailing and shoes. He was a founder of the HunterThompson Shoe and Hosiery Company which he operated until his retirement in 1943. A Mason and a Presbyterian, he was exceptionally active in civic affairs, including the Chamber of Commerce and the Community Chest. He was married in Coverd 'Alene on August 2, 1909, to Rena Natholia Bacon who died January 23, 1965. He married Eleona F. Heitzman on June 20, 1966, anddied January 28, 1968.
