Matthew T. Lyon (1864-1944) was the original owner and was also proprietor of Templeton Barbersh p and Bathrooms in the Templeton Building at 104 West South Temple. The home was built for $2,000 by the Pacific Lumber Company which built many such homes in the Avenues. Lyon and his wife Adelia Mangum moved into the home upon its completion although Lyon sold the home to Thomas James ( -1935), a real estate entrepreneur for $3,100 and an agreement to sell it back to Lyon. Lyon was the son of John and Janet Thompson Lyon who had come to Utah from Scotland as Mormon (LDS) converts. Many members of the Lyon family owned property in the Avenues. Matthew lived in this home until 1927 when he moved to 1329 1st East. By then he had established his own Toiletries Manufacturing Company (15 Main). The home was maintained as rental property. In 1936 Annie James, the widow of Thomas, sold the house to Robert J. Jones subject to the agreement to sell the home to Lyon. Lyon acquired title to the home soon afterwards and took out a mortgage on it with Annie James. Lyon continued to maintain it as rental property. In 1942 Lyon sold the home to V. Blaine and Amanda C. Anderson who moved into the home. Anderson was a boilermaker for Kennicott Copper Co. Avenues H.D. 123 D S1.
