Presence moves out linear time. Significance sears into the fabric of oneself, an occurrence one wants to experience in a loop. Materiality - the sense of weight and texture. Emptiness is what makes anything useful. "Such moments are often called 'epiphanies' and I'm here to you they are as common as houseflies." -Kurt Vonnegut Awareness is a modern luxury. Awareness adds complexity to a simple form. Slightly lifted off the surface, the commonplace morphs into absolutely a new thing. Then conciseness confronts the bend of time and space. "I've just found my mind, only it's a different sort of mind than you imagined, You think a poem must have covers around it. The moment you write a thing the poem ceases. The poem is the present which you can't define. You live it. Anything is a poem if it has time in it. The finest poem I ever lived was a kitchen sink." - Henry Miller The poem of the kitchen sink. The poem of the concrete wall. The poem of weathered cedar. These poems are infinite. Yet the stage needs to be designed to put these poems into the awareness. The poem is not nervous to be seen as crude or naked. Knowing its flaws and unconcerned about them. Startling power is generated from flaws. "Perhaps, it occurred to me, I was in some new space. I'd entered the place where oblivion was born. Or despair. And also understanding. Or perhaps even love - not as a mirage but as a space for the soul to move in." - Ivan Klima Duality or singular, maybe neither. A balance of the mundane and the sublime, composition and savagery, an agreement and a brawl. conceptional sketches f i n a l s t u d i o 2 0 0 9 j e r e m y b r i n g a r d conceptional sketches /~ f i n a l s t u d i o 2 0 0 9 j e r e m y b r i n g a r d conceptional sketch schematic sketch schematic section conceptional section I 1 .- ;:: - ~{--~. 0 ---- /~ f i n a l s t u d i o 2 0 0 9 j e r e m y b r i n g a r d site plan ."" /~ • ••• f i n a l s t u d i o 2 0 0 9 j e r e m y b r i n g a r d on grade plan conceptional site skectch below grade plan )("., '"'' """"" JOJ C ao DOOC'[, ~n~ r nn ~n,"'JlJJ [ ao oaac'~ " ...... ir;Jr o O:[] [j [ . , ~"_'Cl ~,-,~ /~ L ' ~ 01 :,00 JOO J :'00 :'00 -., r -' ~ -' ~ > , , , " "'l' '.t $, \(' ~ .... ~ :,<', tX" ,OJ ;j, IJ~ 0:3 1 I ,1 .$',l ."\ ... -- "1 I l~lPS J :0] .~" 'Ii' :!<,~ fe;. .'. -- '~ I~ , rY, ,,,; t:' ~ 'L;' ~ ;}f1 0 ~ Ii 11 f : ::i:J I '7 I ~ ~ , ~ ~~ " ~ I ~ ~ ~ fl~ ;] : :,: I rr~JIIII] -- ~ •• -- -- ~) ,:111 J; ''i.) 0') ~ f"';" ~ l ~'J .;, " , ( ';'j ~E; c;;' ,<: T!\Sl 'N( ROOM " , P _AZA • WHITE Y -W'IN ;", l_ RED VIEWIN' °AVIUCN or WHITE RESER"E TASTING_ '", ;.:mG RED R SERI" TAST NG·", EC I'll '.'IF N 3 NTAKE )UTF' f i n a l s t u d i o 2 0 0 9 j e r e m y b r i n g a r d section bb section aa approach /~ f i n a l s t u d i o 2 0 0 9 j e r e m y b r i n g a r d perspective section of cellar and tasting room scale model scale model f i n a l s t u d i o 2 0 0 9 j e r e m y b r i n g a r d wine production room /~ f i n a l s t u d i o 2 0 0 9 j e r e m y b r i n g a r d entrance into the plaza /~ f i n a l s t u d i o 2 0 0 9 j e r e m y b r i n g a r d special tasting room /~ |
