Title Walsh & Hoyt: Lesions of the Trochlear Nerve
Creator Jane C. Sargent, MD
Affiliation Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, University of Massachusetts
Subject Fourth (Trochlear)
Description Lesions that produce a cavernous sinus syndrome were discussed in an earlier section of this chapter. When they produce combined ocular motor nerve palsies, the trochlear nerve is often involved. It is unusual, however, to see an isolated trochlear nerve palsy in cavernous sinus disease, although ischemia (e.g., diabetes mellitus)may conceivablyaffect the nerve in this location.
