Subject Ocular Motor System; Ocular Motility Disorders; Oculomotor Nucleus Lesions; Subarachnoid Space; Pupillary Involvement; Subarachnoid Oculomotor Nerve Palsy; Pupillary Sparing; Cyclical; Cavernous Sinus Syndrome
Description Acquired dysfunction of the oculomotor nerve is far more common than congenital dysfunction, being caused by nearly every pathologic process. The precise site of the responsible lesion is clear in some cases and speculative in others. Neuroimaging has made localization easier. Lesions of the oculomotor nucleus. Lesions of the oculomotor nerve fascicle. Lesions of the oculomotor nerve in the subarachnoid space. Isolated fixed, dialated pupil as the sole manifestation of subarachnoid oculomotor nerve palsy. Subarachnoid oculomotor nerve palsy with pupillary involvement. Subarachnoid oculomotor nerve palsy with pupillary sparing. Subarachnoid oculomotor nerve palsy from involvement at or near its entrance to the cavernous sinus. Lesions of the oculomotor nerve within the cavernous sinus and superior orbital fissure. The sphenocavernous syndrome. Isolated oculomotor nerve involvement in the cavernous sinus. Lesions of the oculomotor nerve within the orbit. Lesions of the oculomotor nerve of uncertain or variable location. Recovery from acquired oculomotor nerve palsy. Acquired oculomotor synkinesis.
