Description Spasmus nutans is characterized by the triad of nystagmus, head nodding, and an anomalous head position, such as torticollis. It usually begins in the first year of life, although it may not be detected until the child is 3 or 4 years old. Neurologic abnormalities are absent, although strabismus or amblyopia may coexist. The syndrome is sometimes familial and has been reported in monozygotic twins. Spasmus nutans spontaneously remits, usually within 1 to 2 years after onset, although it may last for over 8 years.
