Description The superior vena cava may become obstructed from trauma, by neoplasm, or as a complication of certain shunting procedures for hydrocephalus. It also may become occluded by extension of a thrombus from the intracranial dural sinuses. Obstruction of the superior vena cava can also occur from fibrotic occlusion around a transvenous pacemaker.
