Subject Sarcoidosis; Muscle Manifestations
Description Although muscle biopsy frequently demonstrates granulomatous inflammation in sarcoid patients, symptomatic muscle involvement is rare. It typically occurs in one of two forms: nodular or myopathic. In the nodular type, patients have single or multiple nodules in the skeletal muscles. Patients with the myopathic type have myalgia, muscle weakness, and atrophy. This is the type most commonly seen in elderly women, many of whom have hypercalcemia.
