Description According to Gassel, dementia does not qualify as a false localizing sign if there is a frontal lobe tumor, substantially increased ICP, dysphasia, or confusion. He observed six patients, however, in whom dementia was falsely localizing. Two of these patients had posterior fossa meningiomas. Altered mental state of some form may be the initial manifestation of brain tumors in up to 20% of patients.
