Subject Vascular Disorders, Neuro-Ophth & Systyemic Disease
Description Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) typically affects the vasa vasorum supplying the cranial-cervical arteries. However, any medium to large vessel can be involved. Aortic aneurysm secondary to aortitis may be an unexpected complication of GCA. Corticosteroid related weakening of an already widened aortic wall is also a possibility. We review underlying mechanisms and screening guidelines for aneurysms in GCA.
