Description Unilateral disease of the cerebral hemispheres causes deficits of saccades (mild slowing or dysmetria) contralateral to the lesion, but decreased smooth pursuit gain ipsilateral to the lesion. Most studies in monkey suggest a diffuse ocular motor decussation between nuclei 4 and 6 with a large component in the PPRF, especially for the FEF projections. The descending pathways from parietal area 7 and the superior temporal lobe probably do not decussate, but the anatomy is not known.
