Description Dizziness is a nonspecific term that describes a sensation of altered orientation in space. Since visual, proprioceptive and vestibular signals provide the main source of information about the position of the head and body in space, damage to any of these systems can lead to a complaint of dizziness. The patient cannot distinguish the source of his dizziness, but certain features in the history help the examining physician determine which systems are involved (Table 1).
