Title |
Laboratory Evaluation of the Dizzy Patient |
Creator |
Robert W. Baloh |
Subject |
Dizzy Patient; Vestibulospinal Function Tests; Laboratory Evaluation; Electronystagmography |
Description |
As a general rule, tests of vestibulospinal function lack specificity and sensitivity. Because of the overlap in function it is difficult to distinguish vestibular signs from those resulting from lesions of the proprioceptive and cerebellar pathways. Furthermore, an acute vestibulospinal imbalance is rapidly compensated for so that a chronic lesion may be undetectable even when the tests are performed with eyes closed. |
