Description There are four named penetrating arteries and nine named circumferential arteries supplying the thalamus. In a study of 25 nonhemorrhagic infarctions, we have found that the infarctions usually involve only four of these territories. The tuberothalamic, a branch of the posterior communicating; the deep interpeduncular profundus, a branch of the basilar root of the posterior cerebral; the geniculothalmic, a branch of the posterior cerebral; and the anterior choroidal, a branch of the internal carotid artery.
