Intracarotid Infusion of BCNU or CIS-Platinum in Patients with Malignant Glioma

In spite of intense efforts to improve survival over the past 20 years, malignant glioma remains a fatal disease. The best treatment results using the combined modalities of radical surgical resection, 6000 rads of whole brain rad i at1. on, an d intravenous BCNU o ff er, at b est, 20 - 30% two year survey 1(1,2,3,4,4a) The major chemotherapeutic limitation has been cumulative myelosuppression and delayed pulmonary, hepatic and renal toxicity of BCNU. Attempts to improve survival utilizing high dose BCNU with autologous bone marrow infusion is cumbersome and associated with significant toxicity(5).
