Persistent Alteration of Stereoscopic Depth Perception Foilowing Orbital De-Compression and Multiple Orbital Surgeries for Graves' Ophthalmology

A 45 y. o. female developed hyperthyroidism with Graves' disease In 1963 and was given I 1 3 ' . Proptosls 05 and diplopia developed In 1983. In 1984, compressive optic neuropathy OD led to bilateral three wall orbital decompression. 18 days later vision was OD 20/80, OS 20/60. Without high dose prednisone, vision decreased to count fingers OD, and 2000 rads were given to the orbits. 90 PD of esotropia lead to blmedlal rectus recession and marginal myotomies. The Inferior recti and levators were also recessed. Postoperatively the patient had exotropla and complained of binocular spatial confusion; e.g. supermarket aisles and fingers of her outstretched hand looked too long. Monocular depth perception was normal.
