Subject Primary Visual Nuclei; Lateral Geniculate Nucleus; Pretectum; Parallel Processing; Accessory Optic System; Parapheneline-Diamine
Description Until recentiy, it was taught that projections from the retina, ilia the optic netVe went primarily to the lateral geniculate nucleus and secondarily to the pretectum. However, recent human studies have demonstrated the existence of several other pathways to different brain prlmaryvlsual nuclei. The existence of these pathways has clinical signfflcance in that there probable are many visual functions mediated by the human optic nerve. Moreover, we now need to consider parallel processing as the organizational mode for Information processing In the human visual system.
