Title Brainmapping Occipital Lesions: Preliminary Results
Creator Stephen F. Johnson, MD
Subject Brain Mapping; Occipital Lesions; Magnetic Resonance Imaging; Electroencephalography
Description Controversy besets computer analysis and graphic display of scalp electrical potentials, both spontaneous and evoked by visual stimuli. The debate about "brain mapping" arises from a dearth of clinical studies of its usefulness coupled with premature applications of the technique to psychiatric diagnosis. Can brain mapping enhance diagnosis, prognosis, or follow-up of patients with neuro-ophthalmolic problems? Theoretically, the method seems promising, but review of published literature reveals almost no reports about patients, either favorable or unfavorable.
