Description Devic's disease is a clinical syndrome characterized by the acute onset of bilateral optic nerve and spinal cord demyelination occurring within an interval of six weeks. The clinical features of eight cases on neuromyelitis optica contributed to a Devic's disease registry are reviewed. There were 5 women and 3 men, all less than 50 years old. 50% of the patients had some prodromal illness occurring within 4 weeks of the presenting symptoms.
