Title Sensory Visual Testing in Pseudotumor Cerebri; Tests Sensitive to Change During Treatment
Creator Michael Wall, MD, University of Iowa, Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology
Subject Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension; Pseudotumor Cerebri; Lanthony 15 Hue Desaturated Color Panel Testing; Contrast Sensitivity Teasting; Perimetry Testing
Description Management decisions in idiopathic intracranial hypertension (ilH, pseudotumor cerebri) are based principally on the presence and change of visual loss. We have shown that for patients with optic neuropathies the most sensitive tests for detecting visual loss of nine tests studied are perimetry, contrast sensitivity testing and Lanthony 15 hue desaturated color panel testing.3 To determine which of these sensory visual tests changed significantly overtime, 19 patients who had an improvement in their papilledema grade were studied. We used the results of the right eye of patients whose clinical status improved (decrease in papilledema grade). Contrast sensitivity testing showed significant improvement in the 6,12 and 18 cycle per degree gratings. Snellen acuity, A/O color plate scores and the Lanthony desaturated 15 hue total error scores did not change significantly over the same period.
