Description |
The frequency with which optic neuritis in childhood is caused by multiple sclerosis has been reported to range from 0 to 50%. Between 1974 and 1982, I saw 9 patients, 16 years of age and older with optic neuritis. The 7 girls and 2 boys ranged in age from 5 to 16 years. 5 had bilateral involvement. Of the 14 involved eyes, 8 (57%) of the optic discs were swollen {papillitis}; 1 (7%) was normal; and 5 (36%) were pale. |
