Description |
Meningioma represents 15% of all intracranial neoplasms. 18% of intracranial meningiomas are located in the sphenoid ridge. These lesions are treated neurosurgically but are important to the ophthalmologist because many patients present initially with eye signs or symptoms. Morphologic subtypes of meningioma include the globoid, or en masse type, in which the tumor diameter exceeds its dural base. En plaque tumors grow in a carpet-like fashion along the skull base and often infiltrate adjacent bone. We asked the following question: Do en plaque and globoid sphenoid meningiomas differ in their effect on visual prognosis and recurrence following surgical resection? |
