Description The dorsolateral visual pathway in macaque monkeys comprises visual areas V 1, V2, the middle temporal (MT) and middle superior temporal (MST) areas and the posterior parietal visual areas. The parietal areas include area 7a (area PG of von Bonin and Bailey in the inferior parietal lobule), the intraparietal visual areas (lining the intraparietal sulcus) and the parieto-occipital area. Area MT (also called area V5) and area MST may be considered with the parietal areas as they lie just ventral to area 7 a at the junction of the parietal lobe and postero-superior temporal lobe. Area V3A, situated between dorsal area V3 and the parietal-occipital area, is also often included in this pathway. The dorsolateral visual pathway has also been called the parietal pathway, theM-pathway, and the ""where"" system.
