Description Rochalimaea henselae and Rochalimaea quintana are closely related, pleomorphic, gram negative bacilli belonging to the order Rickettsiales. R. quintana is the agent of trench fever, considered to be tile most prevalent disease among allied troops in France during World War I. R. henselae is tilought to be the causative agent of bacillary angiomatosis, parenchymal bacillacy peliosis, and prolonged fever associated with persistent bacteremia.' More recently, R. henselae has been implicated in the pathogenesis of cat scratch disease.
