The elucidation of approximately one dozen mtDNA mutations has renewed interest in Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON). We recently performed a detailed histopathological study of ocular tissues from an LHON patient with 11778 mutation. There was destruction of the retinal ganglion cell layer and its corresponding nerve fiber layer. |
