Subject Optic Gliomas; Neurofibromatosis Type I; Hamartomatous Lesions; Neuroimaging
Description Optic pathway gliomas are rare hamartomatous lesions associated with neurofibromatosis I (NF-I). The clinical signs, symptoms and tumor-associated mortality are location dependent, increasing exponentially with involvement of the chiasm or adjacent hypothalamus. Some investigators have therefore advocated neuroimaging in all NF-I children to screen for optic gliomas.
